What Happens When Your Lash Lift or Brow Lamination Wears Off?

It’s worth asking before your first appointment: what will your lashes or brows look like when the treatment wears off? The short answer is that they go back to how they were before. There’s no sudden drop, and a properly done treatment doesn’t leave your hair worse off. What you do get is an in-between stage, when treated and untreated hairs sit side by side, and knowing what to expect makes it far easier to manage.

Wearing off is gradual, not sudden

Neither treatment has an expiry date. A lash lift and brow lamination both reshape the hairs you have on the day, so the result fades one hair at a time as treated hairs shed and new ones grow in. Most people notice the change slowly, often only when they compare their reflection with photos from the first week. With brows, the change can be even harder to spot, since daily brushing and gel keep the shape looking tidy for longer.

What your lashes look like as a lift grows out

Around six weeks in, the lash line usually becomes a mix: lifted lashes still curving upward alongside new ones that point straight out or slightly down. From some angles, the lashes may look uneven or even appear to cross.

Mascara applied from the root and swept upward helps blend the two. A lash curler can come back into your routine once most of the lift has faded, but while many treated lashes remain, use it gently, if at all, as clamping lashes that are already curled can crimp them. If your lift included a tint, the color usually fades before the curl does, so the lashes may look lighter at the tips before they look less lifted. Lash serums won’t make a noticeable difference in the short term, so patience is the main tool here.

What your brows look like as lamination grows out

Brows relax in a similar way. Treated hairs gradually lie flatter, and new hairs grow in following their natural pattern, which might be downward, flat, or slightly curly. The brows lose some of their brushed-up uniformity and start to resemble your pre-treatment brows again.

A brow gel keeps everything pointing the same way during this stage, and a tint can help the shape look defined while the texture changes. If a few long, stray hairs bother you, a quick tidy from your technician is better than plucking them yourself. Brows tinted at the same appointment may also show a slight color difference between older hairs and new growth.

Will your lashes or brows be worse than before?

It’s a common fear, but both treatments act on the hair above the skin rather than on the follicle, so new growth comes through just as it did before. If anything looks sparse at first, it’s usually because you’ve grown used to the fuller, lifted look, and because some new hairs are still short.

The exception is hair that was overprocessed. Damaged hairs can look dry or frizzy as the treatment fades, but they’re replaced over time too. If that’s what you notice, take it as a sign to leave a longer gap before your next treatment rather than a lasting change.

Rebook or take a break?

Once a treatment has mostly grown out, the choice is yours. If you loved the result and your hair feels healthy, rebooking keeps the look consistent, and we’d generally suggest doing so once most of the treated hairs have been replaced, which for many people is around six to eight weeks. If you’re planning around an event, booking a week or two beforehand gives the hairs time to settle, so they look their most natural on the day.

If your lashes or brows feel dry, or you simply want to see them in their natural state for a while, a break is perfectly fine and carries no downside. Either way, the grow-out stage is a good moment to talk to your technician about what you’d like next, whether that’s a softer lift, a bolder brow, or nothing at all for a while. We like to think the best treatments are the ones you choose to come back to, not ones you feel you have to.
